Episode 150 – Mystic Brewery “Boston Cognac” – Rare Preview!

It’s our 150th episode and we wanted to bring you something special. So this episode, we’re previewing a beer, still unnamed and unreleased, that will make some serious waves in the beer world. The boys over at Mystic Brewery (the Ph.D. having, MIT-graduating, high-gravity-brewing, fermentation-geek “boys”), an upstart brewery in the Boston, MA area have started brewing some big, BIG beers. We were able to convince Dr. Bryan Greenhagen, founder and brewer, to send us some of what they’re working on. They sent us a bottle of their to-be-renamed “Entropy” (there was a naming conflict with another beer), a four-times fermented 18% whopper of a beer that without any real competition or precedent, has no real formal style. Bryan was kind enough to categorize it for us – a “Boston Cognac,” jokingly concocted, but it’s now in a TGOB video, so it’s real! :) ;Here’s the thing – this eventual seasonal release (once each fall) is so beautifully crafted, it’s hard to find fault with it. What an incredibly awesome surprise this beer is, and if you like what we have to say about it and want to get some this fall – get in line, we’ll see you there.
