Episode 123 – EKU Pils

This German pilsner from the Kulmbacher brewery, owned by the Kulmbacher Group. They weren’t a “group” 20 years ago, but they began buying up other breweries, bottled water companies, etc. The usual assumption is that a large group conglomerate would put out a standard macro-brew beer, but this turns out to be one of the best pure pilsners we’ve had the pleasure of trying.

    If it's the best Pilsner ever it gets 100 points. If Warsteiner is the best you've had it gets 100 points. I love Pilsner Urquel so I give it a 97. I did revisit the Warsteiner after you reviewed it last time and loved it, so I'd give it a 96. I know the PU is mass produced but so Is Warsteiner.
    I know we need to leave some room at the top in case we find a better Pilsner but 90 or 91.? Are we comparing it with the best beer ever, or with other Pilsners.

    As far as the pilsner goes, Dave and I thought it was one of the best from that category. Our scores stand and this one is probably high on our lists of great pure pilsners.

    I have been following you guys for a few weeks now and I must say that I love the show (it looks really good in HD, too bad it takes so long to load.) I backtracked to your first episodes and I am impressed with the persistence and passion. What I admire most is that you guys proclaimed right from the start that you aren't experts in how beer is made, you just know that you love it. Entertaining, honest and no fluff; plus I'm diggin' the camera angles in this episode and excited to see where you guys go with it.
