Episode 090 – Browerij De Ranke XX Bitter

The self-proclaimed “hoppiest beer in Belgium” is in fact a Belgium IPA – a new variety of beer that’s making some waves. With the potential for a magnificent mix of Belgian malts and American hops, Belgian IPAs are still a work in progress. The XX Bitter from Browerij De Ranke impresses Dave more than Johnny – what do you think?

Thanks for that – I actually like the episodes where you seem to disagree somewhat :-) I'll need to check out if this alleged hop-fest of a belgian beer is available here in Australia. Cheers,

Did you guys pregame before this show? Johnny, is that a beer tan on your face?

BTW, this show was very “Wham-Bam-Thank-You-Ma'am!” Is this an exception, or is 5 min the new format?

It's more like wham bam, next beer please.

As you have probably seen is we're making a lot of changes – our website has changed, we just introduced Disqus for better commenting, have moved our Contact form to Wufoo for much better stability and management, and have just hopped in to true HD video, to name a few.

We distribute the show to other outlets as well – Philly.com is a great example of an entity that syndicates Two Guys On Beer.

We're updating (and are almost done) the entire video distribution model we use – to get video to Viddler for our show page, and other outlets for our podcast and iTunes feeds, iPhone syncing and on-demand mobile-device show pages, etc.

Our statistics trackign got better too, and one of the things we noticed was that a lot of people were dropping off at about the 60% mark – which meant the majority of our viewers were missing the second beer entirely. So we made a decision to try a new format – single beer, 5 minute episodes (instead of two beer, 10 minute episodes) and release one per day. We actually spend the same amount of time per-beer as we always have – about 5 minutes – but are trying to distribute it in a way that's easier to consume for our viewers that don't have a lot of time. 5 minutes a day isn't much time, and we feel the show has a lot of energy for those 5 minutes.

That said, this is, in fact, an experiment, and we very much appreciate the feedback. Although this week wasn't normal, we'll be putting out one episode a day 5 days a week moving forward, so you'll still get the same amount of content you used to, just in smaller chunks.

Please continue to provide feedback – it's incredibly important to us!

We don't pre-game, but we film 6 of these 5 minute episodes at a time, which means as we get to the last episode, we're definitely a little… looser. :)

Drank one of these tonight. Tastes much like a Pirate beer, Pirrat, Beer de Buccaneer etc. but with much lower ABV.
    Slainte.
