Episode 072 – Atwater Vanilla Java Porter, Hofbrau Dunkel

With the promise of real vanilla beans and coffee in a porter, the Vanilla Java Porter from Atwater Brewery falls desperately short of decent. Then we head over to Germany for some Hofbrau Dunkel, a favorite of Johnny’s and a decent example of a Munich Dunkel Lager, a darker and smoother version of a pilsner. With a brewery dating back to 1589, the tradition definitely shows through.

Yes, I was expecting a 99 for the Hofbrau. I had some of the light stuff last week and it was very good. I woulda shoulda given it a 94. Where are you gonna find a better beer for a buck and a quarter? 100's all around. Great show.

The best way to have a Hofbrau Dunkel is in the Hofbrauhaus with a GIANT pretzel listening to polka music! Great brewery, great beer, and a great experience! I wouldn't give them all the credit for Oktoberfest, though... I think it was Hacker Pschorr that started things off with King Ludwig.
